Farmingville, NY – On Thursday, October 25, Councilman Michael Loguercio will host the Brookhaven Town Disability Task Force’s celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the 2nd floor Media Room at Town Hall. During the event, which runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Task Force will recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and educate attendees about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.
The event will feature guest speakers Elena R. Spera, Quality Control and Compliance Manager at American Maintenance, and Doreen E. Nobile, Business Relations Representative Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation at ACCES-VR, followed by discussions to help advance the important message that people with disabilities are equal to the task. There will also be a screening of the multi-award-winning documentary film “Bottom Dollars,” covering issues of segregated workplaces and low wages for individuals with disabilities, as well as other issues they face daily. At the September 27, 2018 Town Board Meeting, Councilman Loguercio sponsored a resolution to declare October as Disability Employment Awareness Month is Brookhaven. It was unanimously adopted by the Town Board. On September 30, 2014, Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Town Board passed resolution 2014-672 establishing the Town of Brookhaven’s Disability Task Force.
