Town Demolishes Zombie House on Happy Acres Drive in Shirley

Councilman Panico in front of Happy Acres Drive Demolition

Farmingville, NY –  On October 16, Councilman Dan Panico (pictured) was on-hand for the demolition of a “Zombie House” located at 24 Happy Acres Drive in Shirley. The house was a dangerous nuisance in the neighborhood for many years and the source of resident complaints. It was demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owner.

Councilman Panico said, “We are continually working to get our hamlets in this Town to the point where there are no more homes to be demolished. After years of work, the hamlet of Shirley is getting very close to being one of those hamlets.”
