Farmingville, NY – On November 12, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (left) honored Boy Scout Joseph Snider (right) from Troop 1776 during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held at the American Legion Wilson Ritch Post 432 in Port Jefferson Station. For his Eagle Scout project, Joseph fundraised and built a new sign for the post and installed a dedication stone commemorating the men and women who have served in the military. Including three fundraisers, support from his troop, family, sponsors and community, the project was completed in 223 hours of hard work.
"Leadership, hard work, and dedication to the community are what it means to be an Eagle Scout," said Councilwoman Bonner. "I commend Joseph for his achievement. He is a wonderful example for younger Scouts and his peers to follow."
Since the award was presented in 1912, no more than four percent of all Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
