Donna Lent is serving her second term as Town Clerk, having been first elected Town Clerk in November 2013 and re-elected in November 2017. As Town Clerk, Ms. Lent streamlined procedures in the Town Clerk’s office to increase efficiency and decrease waste. Ms. Lent oversaw the successful implementation of the Town’s Electronic Content Management System which included the digitization of nearly 20 million pages of records as well as the creation of the Central Scanning Repository to digitize the Town’s records in real time. Ms. Lent also reorganized the Town’s Archived Records Center, bringing the Town’s records into compliance with New York State Archive and Record Administration guidelines.
In 2017, Town Clerk Donna Lent earned certification as a Registered Municipal Clerk (RMC) by the New York State Town Clerks Association. Registered Municipal Clerk designation is earned through numerous hours of education and training as well as extensive experience requirements.
Ms. Lent has a long history of public service and dedication to the community. For more than two decades she was a stalwart volunteer for the Sachem Athletic Club, a sports program for boys and girls aged 6 to 13, where she served as a Coach and Mentor to numerous young athletes. Her invaluable guidance and oversight as the Club’s treasurer was instrumental in the expansion of the program, enabling hundreds of additional Brookhaven students to benefit from the program.
While earning her BA at Stony Brook University, Ms. Lent enjoyed a successful career as a Law Office Manager and small business owner. In 2001, Ms. Lent left the private sector to enter public service.
A life-long supporter of Women’s Rights, Ms. Lent also serves as the President of the National Women's Political Caucus, a bipartisan, not for profit organization established in 1971 whose mission is dedicated to seeing more women in elected and appointed office.
Ms. Lent’s community service was recognized by the Suffolk County Association of Social Workers when she was honored with their “Citizen of the Year” award. Donna and her husband of 49 years, Greg, raised their three children in North Patchogue and today have the additional joy of ten grandchildren.
