1. How long can my vehicle be on the street with no plates?

The law states, “an abandoned vehicle may not be left on the roadway for more than six hours”.

2. Can the Town remove a vehicle from my property?

If the vehicle owner cannot get a junk or salvage company to respond to a request for disposal of an unwanted vehicle, the Town will remove the vehicle for a fee.

3. What happens to a vehicle after the Town takes possession?

The Town notifies owners and lienholders of the impound. The Town may then take possession of the vehicle ten days after notification. Unclaimed vehicles are then sent to a licensed dismantler or sold at auction. See the Town website for upcoming auctions.
